Let's Get Physical.

This week I conducted my first video in an 8-part series. This series is dedicated to learning from past mistakes to create a better future and an exciting new year! The videos and content focus on one of the 8 dimensions of wellness each week.

Week 1 workshop focus: Physical

Week 1 word-of-the-week: Optimism

Now, time to tie it all together.

I define optimism as a lens (or perspective) in which we view experiences in a positive way.

Through making the video about the physical dimension of wellness, I learned a few things:

1. I have been where you are; looking for answers, knowing what needs to be done, but falling short of success.

2. EXCUSES show up in unusual ways. People cutting me slack when I’ve fallen short, gave me permission to excuse my lack of effort. NOTE: THE DIFFERENCE OF “CUTTING SLACK” AND COMPASSION/GRACE.

a. Also note… No one else GIVES you permission. You are your own BOSS, run it!

3. I’m an all-or-nothing type of girl. Give me restrictions or give me freedom. There is no in-between for me. And that’s ok. That’s what works for me.

Being healthy is a choice for me. Being optimistic is also my choice. Can I state the obvious way to reframe my outlook here??? WHY NOT BE OPTIMISTIC ABOUT MY HEALTH?! Ok, so I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with weight loss and body image in the past. Now that I’ve realized what holds me back, I’m ready. I can now enter this space of living a healthy life. The optimistic lens I talked about? It’s out. I’m looking at things through this lens and I like what I see!

How can you adopt my perspectives here? I have some thoughts and ideas:

· Maybe instead of dreading what you eat or deciding what to eat every night, you meal plan and prep on Sundays. Pro Tip: New recipes keep it exciting.

· Instead of “boring” walks, you ask a friend to join you or you create a more exciting playlist to jam out to.

· Get in touch with your body. Have a starting point. We DREAD the “before” picture, but just know when you take that pic, it’s only getting better from here!!! Weigh yourself, measure and track. Starting somewhere gives you a jumping off point.
